In January of 2008, Northern California was pounded by three days of heavy Pacific Storms.¬† When they cleared, I drove to Rodeo Beach in the headlands – mostly just to get out of the house and give my family a break from me.¬† Post-storm waves broke in every direction, providing shorebirds with plenty of opportunity to feed near them.¬† Nervous beach walkers kept an eye on the undulating ocean and the uncertain high water mark.¬† As soon as I set up my tripod on “safe” ground away from the waterline, four inches of water washed over my boots.

"Rodeo Beach Wave-9072"

i forgot about my wet socks a few beats later when a particularly heavy set crashed onshore on the southern end of the beach, and in two minutes I made several memorable images.   This one which was selected by Nikki Wood and the team at Marin Magazine to grace their 2009 cover.
